Onion tomato chutney Telangana style is regular breakfast chutney, and tomatoes are the primary ingredients in this recipe. also consists of tomatoes, onions, ginger garlic paste, salt and chilies.
literally there are different ways for preparation of tomato chutney, here I have shown this recipe especially for breakfast. such as dosa, idli, punugulu, & It would be a delicious combination & I love this recipe a lot with punugulu combination especially.
Generally this Onion tomato chutney used to served in India, where it has become famous street style chutney. even though its preferred chutney by lot of us & compulsory with breakfast at street side.
They used serve this along with pea nut chutney. & coconut chutney. also it can be stored in a refrigerator for a week.
How to make Onion tomato chutney :
Preparing Onion tomato chutney Telangana style :
Firstly in a bowl take 4 medium sized tomatoes, and wash them. next cut tomatoes into pieces, keep them aside. next chop one onion into slices and keep aside.
In a pan add one table spoon of oil, let it heat on low to medium flame for a minute. then add 1/2 spoon cumin seeds and 1/2 spoon mustard seeds, and wait for half minute with in half minute they will get cracked.
Then add chopped onion, sauté till onions become transparent, once done add red chilies 4-5 & few curry leaves, sauté for 1 minute, curry leaves becomes crispy.
Then add garlic 5-6, sauté for 1 more minute then add chopped tomatoes to the pan. mix well, close lid and cook for 2-3 minutes on medium flame. after 3 minutes open the lid, and add salt as required to your taste, add coriander powder one spoon then combine all.
cook for 6-7 minutes on low to medium flame, after that check whether tomatoes fully cooked. tomatoes should become soft and mash look. then add coriander leaves, just mix once and turn off the flame. let it come to room temperature.
Grinding to chutney :
once its become cool transfer this to mixer jar, then grind it to a smooth paste. if required add bit of water, if you don't want to add water then you can skip this step. if you add water it will become thick flowing consistency.
Finally transfer to a bowl and keep this chutney aside.
Tempering for Onion tomato chutney :
Add half spoon oil to the pan, let it heat on low flame. for a minute, then add 1/2 spoon mustard seeds, 1 spoon Bengal gram to the pan. sauté for 1-2 minutes on low flame, dal has changed color slightly and became crispy.
Then turn off the flame, transfer this to prepared tomato paste, mix well to combine all. then its ready to serve, serve Onion tomato chutney with your favorite breakfast such as dosa or idli or punugulu.

Step 2 Add chopped onions, sauté them till they become transparent. it will take 2 minutes.
Step 3 Add red chilies 4-5 and garlic, ginger cloves finely chopped, sauté for 1-2 minutes.
Step 4 Then Add few Curry leaves, fry for 30 seconds then they will become crispy. and add chopped tomatoes. cook for 3-4 minutes on medium flame.
Step 5 Add salt as required, 1/2 spoon turmeric powder, 1 spoon coriander powder. combine all and cook for 5-6 minutes on lo- medium flame till the tomatoes cooked fully.
Step 6 Once tomatoes fully cooked, Add coriander leaves, just combine them once and then turn off the flame.
Step 7 let them come to the room temperature, then transfer to mixer jar and grind it to smooth paste, no need to add water to make this paste.
Step 8 Tempering : in a pan add 1/2 spoon of mustard seeds, 1 spoon of Bengal gram. sauté for 2 minutes on low flame. till they slightly change their color. once done remove from the flame.
Step 9 Then Add to tomatoes paste and combine. then onion tomato chutney is ready to serve. you can serve with idli or dosa or punugulu.

2 Onion - 1
3 Red chilies - 4-5
4 Curry leaves - few
5 Salt as required
6 Coriander leaves - few
7 Garlic & ginger - 4-5 chopped
8 Coriander powder - 1 spoon
9 Turmeric powder - 1/2 spoon
11 Cumin seeds - 1/2 spoon
12 Bengal gram - 1 spoon
13 Mustard seeds - 1/2 spoon
