Dal preparations are eaten with rice, chapati. the manner in which it is cooked and presented varies by region. In South India food recipes, dal is primarily used to make the dish called sambar. It is also used to make pappu that is mixed with charu and rice.
It also supplies a rich content of the B vitamin. and Tomato pappu recipe prepared by using different dals, in this recipe I'm using split green gram. usually this recipe prepared with red gram, or split green gram.

How to make Tomato pappu recipe :
Boiling dal :
Step - 1 Take one bowl split green gram, wash for 2 times at least, then place dal in pressure cooker, add required water for boil.
Step - 2 Next, add one tea spoon oil, and one spoon turmeric powder, then close lid, with whistle.
Step - 3 Cook till get 2 whistles, then turn off the flame and let the pressure releases by it self.
Step - 4 Once pressure released by it self, then mash dal to make it smooth. mash a little bit, & keep aside.
Tempering :
Step - 1 Add one table spoon oil to the pan and let it heat for while, Then add 1/2 spoon cumin seeds, 1/2 spoon mustard seeds. wait till they splutter.
Step - 2 Add curry leaves, & sauté for 30 seconds. then add one spoon ginger garlic paste, sauté till it release raw smell.
Step - 3 Add chopped tomatoes, three medium sized tomatoes. then add salt to taste, red chili powder as required, if tomatoes has not enough sour, add piece of tamarind, if tomatoes are enough for adjust taste. no need to add tamarind. next mix all and close lid, cook for 3-4 minutes on medium flame.
Step - 4 Once tomatoes fully cooked, add boiled split green gram to pan, one spoon coriander powder. if you want thin dal, add required water to pan, combine well. then add one spoon coriander powder.
Step - 5 Close lid, & cook for 3-4 minutes on low-medium flame.
Step - 6 After 3 minutes dal becomes thick consistency. then turn off the flame, and garnish with coriander leaves.

1 Firstly take one bowl of split green gram, place in pressure cooker and wash for 2 times. then add required water for boil dal.
2 Add one spoon oil and one spoon turmeric powder.
3 Then cook till get two whistles, on medium flame. once done, then let the pressure release by it self.
4 After that, mash dal and keep aside.
5 Heat pan, and add one spoon of oil for a minute, then add 1/2 spoon of cumin seeds, 1/2 spoon mustard seeds.
when they begin to cracked. then add few curry leaves, sauté for 30 seconds
6 Add 3 chopped tomatoes to the pan, and salt to taste, required red chili powder to the pan.
7 Then combine all and cook for 3-4 minutes on medium flame. till tomatoes fully cooked.
8 Next, add boiled dal to the pan, and one spoon of coriander powder then combine once and cook for 3-4 minutes on low-medium flame.
9 Once done, Turn off the flame, finally garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves. then delicious tomato pappu is ready to serve. serve Tomato pappu with chapati or puri or white rice.

8 - Oil - 2 spoons
9 - Water for boiling dal
10 - Cumin seeds - 1/2 spoon
11 - Mustard seeds - 1/2 spoon
